Summer cocktail & investment evening

During the event, co-sponsored and organized by the SPEA and the Serbian Business Angels Network (SBAN), the focus was on bringing more private investors into the SME sector in Serbia. The cocktail coincided with an SBAN Investment Evening. World Bank Country Manager Loup Brefort stressed the importance of private equity’s role in developing economies in his opening remarks. Brefort went on to note that SPEA and SBAN are at the forefront of bringing alternative financing and private equity investment into minds of Serbian businesses.

Investors such as the Innovation Fund, EBRD, and SEAF were present for the event, whose aim was to create awareness about both the need for and availability of private investment or alternative forms of investment. It was an opportunity for small businesses such as Strawberry Energy, Grupovina, E-Plus and some twenty other companies, to meet various types of investors, who may be interested in new ideas and investing into new business ventures.

“There is an increasing need for more awareness of private equity investment in Serbia,” according to SPEA President David Schoch. “Events such this will be only the beginning of SPEA’s work in this area.”

The Serbian Private Equity Association is an independent non-profit association. SPEA was founded in October 2010 by private equity and other investment professionals with a long standing experience in Serbia and the Southeastern European region. SPEA acts as a representative body of the Private Equity and Venture Capital industry in Serbia.
